Our Italy Itinerary




Our Italy trip plan is as follows:

April 14 Depart Minneapolis for Marco Polo airport,

April 15 Arrive Venice in the afternoon to Marco Polo Airport. Check in to apartment http://www.venice-accom.com//eng/venice-apartment/cnterrazzo.shtml See the most romantic place in all the world ( according to my mother) St Marks square. Go to bed real early too.




  • April 16 St Marks square again,also the basilica, Doge's palace which is a museum type close by and take a canal tour by the city bus and Rick steve's written corresponding tour.

  • April 17 Rialto bridge in the morning when it isn't FULL of tourists, Friari Church, and Then Murano Island.

  • April 18 Ca' Rezonicco museum castle for most of the day and then to a Self guided tour curteosy of Rick Steve also.

  • April 19 Take train to Florence arrive at apartment http://www.inflorence.co.uk/p/apartment.php?nbed=2&id=8 . Perhaps walk around and see the Accademia, church, and tower.

    April 20 See Accademia and do R.S. renaissance walk around. Rodger and Beth are to arrive some time this day.


    April 21 Piazza San Marco, Museum, Indoor market, Medici chapels w/ some big Michaelangeo statues.


    April 22 To the Bargello to see the Pimp David, David in big boots, floppy hat and curly long hair. Piazza della singroa and Mercato Nuovo (the Straw market), and Uffizi. Whew! Lots of museums today.




April 23 Duomo, campanille , Piazza della republica, Oltrano walk,

April 24 Day trip to Pisa to see the Leaning tower, the ginormous Pisan church, and the field of miracles. Then take bus or train back to Florence.


April 25 A big museum called Pitti Palace, we'll see palace decor and costumes etc. Then to Piazelle Michaelango.

April 26 To Parma, to tour Pasta Barilla (courtesy of my husband's international food connections) We'll stay in a hotel- just don't know which one.


April 27 Wander around eat parma ham, take a cheese tour
April 28 Take an olive oil tour, Eat well in the process.


April 29 To Volterra we'll stay in a Villa called Porta Val Arco http://en.venere.com/hotels_volterra/hotel_villa_porta_all_arco.html

April 30 See an alabaster art workshop, see the roman ampitheatre, the old Roman wall.

May 1 Maybe a day trip to winery, drive around the countryside.

May 2 Relax and enjoy scenery. Eat well.

May 3 Travel to Rome! Check in to our apartment.

May 4 Check out all around the Collesuem Palatine hill, Arch of Constantine, Trajan's column, Mamertine Prison, Victor Emanualle monument. This will be a busy day on foot!

May 5 Trevi fountain, see Pantheon, see churches around Pantheon that are known for their artwork and also nearby is a cat hostel for abandoned cats, Luke would like. Continue on a night walk across Rome to see all the monuments as second time - but lit for added romance.


May 6 National Museum of Rome, Ancient baths of Diocletion, Capuccin monks- where the decor is dead monk's bones.

May 7 Borghese gallery, Piazza della republica,


May 8 Il Vaticano- St Peter's square and basilica, vatican museum, Castel St. Angelo (near by where the pope hides if there's an attack - I think) and if there's time there is a market nearby.




May 9 Ostia Antica and Museum, a metro ride away. Maybe Rick's Dolce vita tour in the eveing after dinner


May 10 We'll go on a bike ride over the Via Antica- an old roman road with ruins. It's a 10 mile stretch, I think our bums will be sore.

May 11 Free day for laundry rest

May 12 To Pompeii to see excavations, then on way back stop at Naples for Museo Archeologica, then catch last train home to Rome

May 13 Free day to catch up




May 14 Depart home to minneapolis, then shuttle to Rochester.
